JAMMU, May 2: Thanks to the dilatory style of functioning of those at the helm in Government Medical College Jammu that the much-needed Swine flu testing laboratory that was ought to be established five years ago remained unestablished and funds meant for the purpose got lapsed entirely. Documents in possession of Early times reveal that after the outbreak of swine flu in Jammu during 2014-15, the Principal, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu forwarded in February 2015 a detailed proposal for the creation of a separate isolation ward and a swine flu H1N1 laboratory for molecular diagnosis of swine flu and other epidemics, at an estimated cost of Rs 6.28 crore- Creation of separate isolation ward: Rs 2.98 crore; Creation of Swine flu H1N1 laboratory: Rs 3.30 crore- to the Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education department. Jammu, May 2: Unabated Covid deaths in Jammu’s premier health institute- the Government Medical College Hospital (GMC) Jammu, questioned tall claims of the authorities to improve infrastructure in this institute.
Although GMC caters to the need of all the 10 districts of Jammu province, no serious effort was made to improve infrastructure in this hospital. On Sunday out of a total of 41 Covid deaths, 15 were reported only from GMC where authorities claimed to have provided adequate infrastructure.

Jammu, May 2: The Jammu and Kashmir State Executive Committee on Sunday put Srinagar district in the red category as it issued revised guidelines for effective containment of COVID-19 in the union territory.
According to the new guidelines, all educational institutions, public parks and coaching centres would continue to remain closed till May 31, while public transport is allowed to ply with 50 per cent seating capacity and only 50 per cent shops allowed to open in markets and malls, Chief Secretary and Chairperson SEC B V R Subrahmanyam said in an order here.

Anantnag, May 2: In a surprising development the Government on Sunday declared Government Medical College Anantnag as Tertiary Care Hospital for Anantnag and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir which despite not having a single ICU bed for COVID-19 patients.
