Delimitation report rekindles hope of installing a popular government in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 5: Finalize its report on the eve of the end of its tenure, the Delimitation Commission has rekindled a ray of hope of installing a popular government in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
After getting two months extension to draft its report, the Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission on Thursday signed the final draft of its report. The report is expected to submit the Ministry of Home Affairs this evening.
The completion of the exercise will pave the way for holding elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This would be the first election in the UT after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the erstwhile state of J&K into two Union Territories by the BJP-led NDA government in August 2019.
After getting two extensions, the term of the Jammu and Kashmir Delimitation Commission is going to end on May 6.
On February 21, the Union Government had granted an extension of two months to the Delimitation Commission constituted by it in 2020 to redraw assembly constituencies in the Union Territory.

New Delhi, May 5: Jammu region will now have 43 assembly seats against 37 earlier, while Kashmir region will have 47, as against 46.
Entire Jammu and Kashmir will have five Lok Sabha constituencies, with Anantnag in Kashmir being merged with Rajouri which is in Jammu, according to the final report of the delimitation commission. Kolkata, May 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that it is difficult to stop infiltration and smuggling without the support of the local administration. He, however, also asserted that soon a political situation would emerge wherein the local authorities would be "forced" to extend help due to public pressure.
