Stone-pelters kill tourist in Srinagar | 2nd incident of its kind in 1 week; who says Valley is safe for tourists? | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 7: A young tourist from Chennai died after a bus carrying tourists was attacked by stone pelters in the outskirts of Srinagar on Monday, in a second incident of its kind in one week, putting a question mark on the state government's repeated assertions that Kashmir is safe for tourists.
Police said the bus was on its way to Gulmarg when a mob attacked it with stones at Narbal. The incident took place on Monday morning.
The injured tourist R. Thirumani, 22, was moved to a hospital at around 10:30 am with serious injuries on the nose and forehead. He was slipped into a coma and died at around 8:30 pm at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar.
A police officer said Thirumani had started vomiting. He said the doctors tried to resuscitate him but he died. He said the police has registered an FIR and launched a hunt to nab the attackers.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti went to the hospital after she was informed of the tourist's death. She met the parents of the man.

Jammu, May 7: Security agencies on Sunday wiped out the Burhan group by killing five militants in south Kashmir's Shopian district. The killed militants included an assistant professor of University of Kashmir, who had gone missing and joined the militancy.
According to the details available with Early Times Burhan group comprised of eleven militants which included, Saddam Padder, Adil Khande, Nissar Pandit, Affaq Bhat, Sabzar Bhat, Anees, Ishfaq Dar, Waseem Mallah and Wasim Shah. One among them Tariq Pandit had surrendered in 2017.
