Jammu, June 17: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday hinted at holding assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir "by this year-end".
Addressing a function in Jammu, Mr Singh, who is on a two-day visit to the Union Territory, said the delimitation exercise was completed recently following which the number of seats has increased to 90 with Kashmir having 47 seats and Jammu 43.

New Delhi, June 17: Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande on Friday said the government's decision to raise the upper age limit to 23 years from 21 under the 'Agnipath' scheme for 2022 will provide an opportunity to the youths who were preparing to join the force but couldn't be recruited due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the last two years.
Gen Pande said the decision of the government has been received by the Army to grant the one-time waiver and that the recruitment process will be announced shortly. The Chief of Army Staff also called upon the youth to avail the opportunity to join the Army as 'Agniveers'.

JAMMU, June 17: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped and arrested Jyoti Devi, Corporator, Ward 53 of Jammu Municipal Corporation and her husband Sham Lal while accepting bribe of Rs. 10,000 for issuance of debris clearance certificate.

Srinagar, June 17: An earthquake of moderate intensity jolted parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, officials said.
The magnitude of the quake was measured on the Richter scale 5 with the epicenter at 71.20 in the East and 36.52 in North Wurduj near the Afghanistan border. The tremors were felt for a few seconds.
The tremors were felt at 2.52 pm at 216 km in depth and 427 km in northwest of Srinagar.

New Delhi, June 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the main tunnel and five other underpasses part of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor project here on June 19, officials said on Friday.
The inauguration of the 1.6-km-long tunnel, which will be Delhi's first, will allow commuters travelling to India Gate and other central Delhi areas from east Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad to ditch traffic snarls at ITO, Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg.

Banihal, June 17: A massive landslide on Friday blocked the Jammu-Srinagar national highway near Banihal, leaving thousands of vehicles stranded, officials said.
The landslide struck the 270-km highway, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, at Romepadi around 11 am during the ongoing work on a four-laning project, they said. A road clearance operation has been launched by the concerned agencies.
