Govt ignores Jammu ropeways, no value for human life! | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 20: In yet another case of discrimination with the Jammu region, the ropeways erected by the government for public use over the years have been ignored for proper maintenance and safety standards thereby risking public life.
In less than six months of a deadly ropeway accident in Jammu city, in the latest schoolchildren had a narrow escape when a ropeway in the countryside developed snag in Udhampur area.
Four children had got stuck in ropeway cradle over Jammu's Tawi river. Witnesses said the children were crying helplessly for four hours till they could be finally rescued.
The children were left stranded midway over the fast-flowing river on the way to their school in Pattangarh village, 33 km from Udhampur.
Witnesses said as the children reached midway over the river, the system broke down, leaving them hanging in the cradle for hours altogether.
Luck seems to have favored the children otherwise the incident could have proved a tragedy.
