After Hiranagar, Basantgarh terror attacks Govt to equip VDGs with modern weapons | | |

Jammu, June 25: The Village Defence Guards (VDGs) will be equipped with modern weapons to foil the nefarious designs of the terrorists in Jammu province.
Sources said that the government has decided to equip VDGs with advanced weapons and their remuneration will be increased. This decision was taken after the recent terror attacks in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district and Saida Sohail village of Hirnagar tehsil in Kathua district earlier this month.
On April 28, a member of the Village Defence Committee (VDC) guard was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in a remote village in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.
VDG member Mohammad Sharief, a resident of Khaned, was critically injured in the firing and later succumbed to injuries.
Similarly, during the Hiranagar terror attack, villagers fought the terrorists bravely with their weapons.

Jammu, June 25: The state executive committee meeting of the J&K BJP will be held on the first week of July to start preparations for the coming Assembly elections and also to review the performance of the party in the just concluded Parliamentary elections.
Highly placed sources in the BJP said that the meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on July 1 but it has been rescheduled and a fresh date will be announced very soon.

JAMMU, June 25: A three-tier security system has been put in place in and around for the Amarnath base camp in Jammu under the charge of Jammu and Kashmir Police’s security wing. Forces have carried out search and sanitisation operations to ensure a safe commencement of the annual yatra from June 28 in Jammu.

JAMMU, June 25: Ahead of the beginning of the annual Amarnath yatra, high-end CCTV cameras have been installed along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway to monitor both pilgrimage and regular vehicular traffic, officials said on Tuesday.
The traffic department has installed 10 360-degree CCTV cameras from Udhampur to Banihal in Ramban district, while the police department has placed 60 cameras along the highway to monitor vehicular movement and identify suspicious individuals, they said.

Srinagar, June 25: Former J&K High Court Bar Association president Mian Qayoom was arrested by in connection with the 2020 murder of Advocate Babar Qadri, official sources said on Tuesday.
Qadri, in his 30s, was shot dead by two gunmen who came as clients to his Hawal Srinagar house and shot him dead on September 24, 2020. The case is under investigation by the Special Investigating Agency of J&K police.
"He was arrested after investigations hinted at his role as conspirator," the sources said.

KATRA/JAMMU, June 25: The direct helicopter service from Jammu to the Mata Vaisho Devi temple began on Tuesday, facilitating pilgrims who wish to perform ‘darshan’ at the revered shrine within a day due to time constraints, officials said.
This is in addition to the helicopter service which is already available between Katra, the base camp for the pilgrims visiting the famous shrine atop Trikuta hills in Reasi district, and Sanjhi Chhat near the temple with a one-way fare of Rs 2,100 per person.
Pilgrims opting for the service from Jammu can choose between two packages — Rs 35,000 per passenger for same day return and Rs 60,000 per person for next day return.
