Cong wants ‘defunct coterie’ of old guards to retire | | |

Jammu, June 26: As the old guards are creating hurdles in retrieving the party’s base in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir a group of Congress leaders has asked the high command to rid the state unit of the yoke of a ‘defunct coterie’.
This group warned that allowing this ‘coterie’ to run the day-to-day affairs would prove disastrous for the party in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Sources said during a meeting some leaders said party leaders pointed out the old guards, who have no base in their respective areas are the biggest hurdles in strengthening the party.
Sources said that some Congress leaders are not ready to give space to the younger lot in the party.
Furthermore, instead of allowing younger and more energetic leaders to start working in their respective constituencies, these old guards are encouraging groups in the party.
Sources said that most of these old guards have lost successive elections in their respective constituencies but they are not ready to clear the way for the fresh lot.

SRINAGAR, June 26: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday conducted a series of raids across four districts of Kashmir as part of its continuing investigations into the conspiracy of the newly-floated offshoots of proscribed Pakistan-backed militant outfits to destabilise J-K.
According to a statement, the raids were conducted in Kulgam, Bandipora, Shopian and Pulwama.

Jammu, June 26: Most parts of Jammu and Kashmir received heavy rains on Monday, bringing respite from sweltering heat but also triggering landslides at multiple locations that blocked the key Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and other roads, officials said.
Authorities closed all schools upto class 10 in Ramban due to a threat of flash floods owing to heavy rainfall, they said.
