Jammu, June 3: Like other parts of the country, the counting of the votes for five Lok Sabha seats of Jammu and Kashmir will start on Tuesday morning to complete a nearly two-month-long process.
The fate of 100 candidates including two former chief ministers Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, sitting Lok Sabha member from Jammu Jugal Kishore Sharma, Peoples’ Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone and others will be decided after the counting on Tuesday. In a massive stride for India’s electoral polity, Jammu and Kashmir witnessed its highest poll participation in the last 35 years.
The Combined Voter Turnout (VTR) at the polling stations for the entire Union Territory (five Lok Sabha seats) was 58.46 % in the General Elections 2024.

India created a world record with 64.2 crore voters, including 31.2 crore women, participating in the Lok Sabha elections this year, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said on Monday.
Addressing a press briefing, he said over 68,000 monitoring teams and 1.5 crore polling and security personnel were involved in the world’s largest electoral exercise.

Srinagar, June 3: Two terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Nihama area of the south Kashmir district after receiving specific input about the presence of terrorists there, a police official said.

Jammu, June 3: Several fire incidents in the past 24 hours have devastated vast tracts of forest land and urban areas across six districts in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.
No injuries or loss of life occurred during any of the incidents, which were reported in Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Kathua, and Poonch districts, they added.
In Poonch district, a blaze, which spread from across the Line of Control (LoC) on Sunday night, triggered multiple mine explosions along the Salotri forward area, the officials said.

NEW DELHI, June 3:
The revised toll charges for motorists on national highways across the country have come to effect from Monday, an official said.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has hiked the toll charges by an average of 5 per cent.
The hike is part of NHAI’s annual exercise where the state-owned body calculates new rates factoring in several parameters, the senior NHAI official said. Every year, it is implemented from April 1 but this year the implementation was deferred due to general elections. The average hike this time was 5 per cent.
