Kashmir to have 8-Security zones for Pandits | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 4: In the wake of meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah on June 3 in the national capital, Kashmir is set to have eight security zones for the Pandits who are facing the brunt of targeted killings.
Official sources said on the instructions of Home Minister Amit Shah the Jammu and Kashmir administration has started working on the plan to have eight secured zones in the main towns of the valley as also in the summer capital of Srinagar.
It was reliably learnt that Shah will be regularly updated on the working of the “secured zones.”
Sources said the “secured zones will have three-tier smart security grid where the people from the affected community will live till situation improves.”
“Their offices will be close to the residential accommodation and they will get escort to the office,” said a source privy to the development.
Apart from this, security grid will be improved around the offices where the Pandits are working and the “human intelligence network will also be beefed up and this all will be part of the eight zones.”

Target killings new challenge for security forces in Kashmir | | |

Srinagar, June 4: Targeted attacks on minorities and non locals has been sweeping Kashmir over the last few months throwing a new challenge to the security forces. According to officials, this year 12 civilians, mostly minorities, non locals and Panchayati Raj institutions members have been shot dead in a series of targeted attacks. Nearly a dozen mostly non local workers have also been wounded in targeted attacks.
Since May, six civilians have been shot dead.

Srinagar, June 4: The Jammu and Kashmir government landed in soup on Saturday, after its decision to transfer Kashmiri Pandit teachers and employees of other departments to "safer locations" evoked major controversy in the Union Territory.
In the wake of increasing targeted killings, the government effected transfer of Kashmiri Pandits and uploaded the list on various government websites.

Poonch, June 4: Four person were killed while seven were critically when a cab rolled down the road in Poonch’s Saujiyan valley.
Officials said that a Tata Sumo (JK14A-3699) rolled down the road in Barari nallah in Saujiyan village.
“One person got killed on the spot while 10 others received injuries.
All were shifted from the site of accident to Sub District Hospital Saujiyan,” officials said adding that one of the injured succumbed to injuries in SDH Mandi.
Later, eight injured were referred to District Hospital Poonch where two more succumbed to injuries taking toll to four. Seven passengers are injured with most among them are critical, he said.

Srinagar, June 4: Security forces shot dead a militant commander of Hizbul Mujahideen in an overnight gunfight in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.
The gun battle erupted at Rishipora in Anantnag on Friday evening during a cordon and a search operation following an input about the presence of militants in the area. Three soldiers and a civilian were injured in initial exchange of fire.
