First time after 2009 Cong takes lead in Hindu-majority assembly segments | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 5: Although the ruling BJP has retained both the Lok Sabha seats of Jammu province, the overall result in two Parliamentary segments is a warning signal for the Saffron Party.
First time since 2009 Congress has taken a lead in three Hindu majority assembly segments of the Jammu region and these segments are considered “citadels” of the BJP.
In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the then-Congress candidate in Jammu Lok Sabha Madan Lal Sharma had got the lead on eight Hindu-majority assembly segments.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha and Parliament elections, Congress candidates failed to get the lead on any Hindu-majority assembly segments of Jammu and Kashmir. The same was the situation in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
This time despite losing the seat by a margin of 1,35, 498 votes, Raman Bhalla broke the winning streak of the BJP in Hindu-dominated assembly segments by taking the lead in RS Pura-Jammu South and Suchetgarh assembly segments.

POONCH, June 5: A woman was killed and two other people were injured when a load carrier they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell on roadside in Mendhar area in Poonch district on Wednesday.

JAMMU, June 5: Fire engulfed two forest areas in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region on Wednesday, causing damage to vast tracts of land, officials said. In Poonch, the fire erupted in Bhatadurian area near the Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar belt and spread to nearby areas, they said.

JAMMU, June 5: A 76-year-old woman, who was among three people injured in a mortar shell blast, died at a government hospital here on Wednesday, officials said. Semroo Devi, Rameet Singh (66) and Suriya Bibi (58) were injured after the rusted mortar shell exploded in Khada Madana village in the Purmandal area of Samba district on May 27.
Devi had suffered critical head injuries and succumbed at Government Medical College here in the early hours of Wednesday, the officials said.
