BJP approaches some saints to contest assembly elections on party tickets | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 11: After the visit of national president JP Nadda, the BJP has accelerated preparations for the maiden Assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from starting the process to set up panels of three potential candidates for all the 90 assembly segments of Jammu and Kashmir, the party has approached some religious heads to field them from different constituencies.
Highly placed sources said that BJP leaders have approached two saints of the Rajouri district and urged them to contest elections on the party’s mandate.
“As of now, nothing has been materialized but the party leaders are trying to convince these religious heads to join the electoral battle in the nation’s interest”, sources said, adding, “These saints have neither rejected nor accepted BJP’s offers and have sought some time to take a final decision”.
Sources said that keeping in view the mass following of these leaders among people, the BJP is trying to rope in these saints to utilize their popularity in other Assembly constituencies also.
