Jammu, July 17: Encouraged by peoples’ response to the party on two Lok Sabha seats, Congress has intensified its campaign to hijack BJP's counter-terrorism narrative to corner the Saffron party ahead of the crucial Assembly polls in J&K.
Amid repeated terror attacks in Jammu province, the opposition Congress kicked start a campaign in different parts of J&K to “expose” BJP for its failure to check terrorism.
Following a massive protest in Jammu City against the recent Doda terror attack on Wednesday, the opposition Congress announced on Wednesday that it will escalate its protests to the district level to challenge the BJP ahead of the Assembly elections.
Recognizing that the surge in terrorism in the Jammu province is a highly sensitive issue, the Congress has decided to vigorously highlight this concern. The party aims to put the BJP on the defensive, particularly in Jammu province, where they anticipate a direct electoral contest with the saffron party.

DODA, July 17: Dozens of Village Defence Guards (VDGs), armed with .303 rifles, are helping security forces in the Desa forest of Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district in their search for the terrorists who killed four soldiers on Monday night.
The VDGs have vowed not to let the terrorists escape the area, but say their slower bolt-action weapons must be replaced by more sophisticated automatic rifles to counter the heavily armed ultras.

JAMMU, July 17: A day after four soldiers including a Captain were killed in a terrorist encounter, security forces and terrorists exchanged fire twice within four hours in a forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district, officials said on Wednesday. They said the firing was first reported at Kalaan Bhata at 10. 45 pm on Tuesday and then near Panchan Bhata at 2 am during the ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the Desa forest area.
There are no reports of any casualties in the latest exchanges of fire.
Taking advantage of the darkness, difficult terrain and thick foliage, the terrorists managed to slip away, the officials said.

JAMMU, July 17: A fresh batch of 3,700 pilgrims left for the Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas on Wednesday amidst tight security measures.
The 20th batch of pilgrims left at 3:05 am in 127 vehicles under CRPF escort from Bhagwati Nagar base camp. The group included 2,734 men, 952 women and nine children.
Of these, 2,305 pilgrims opted for the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route, while 1,435 chose the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route, they said.
The 52-day yatra, which commenced formally on June 29 from Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in Kashmir, will conclude on August 19.

Thirteen Indians are among the 16-member crew of a Comoros-flagged oil tanker that went missing after it capsized off the coast of Oman, the country’s maritime authority said. The tanker capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah in the Wilayat of Duqm, and a search and rescue operation was activated in coordination with the concerned authorities, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre said in a post on X on Monday.
The crew of ‘Prestige Falcon’ included 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans, the centre said in a statement on Tuesday.
