After terror attacks, Himachal stops bus service, seals border with J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 18: Amid repeated terror attacks in the Doda and Kathua districts, security has been tightened and vigilance increased in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district along the borders with Jammu and Kashmir. Security personnel in Chamba have been put on high alert, and patrolling has been intensified to prevent any infiltration attempts by extremists.
This step has been taken after Himachal Pradesh government stopped Chamba-Doda bus serive just two days ago.
Reports indicate that border outposts have been instructed to maintain heightened alert and increased vigilance. Following the terror attacks in Doda and Kathua, an alert has been sounded in Chamba district, and inter-state patrolling has been ramped up.
Previously, the ITBP manned this sensitive border until 2012 when the central government decided to withdraw it. Security along this tranquil border was of little concern until 1998, when Pakistan-trained terrorists massacred 35 laborers in two separate incidents in Satrundi and Kalaban in Chamba district. Jammu, July 18: Two army personnel were injured in a gunfight with terrorists in a remote forest village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district early Thursday, officials said, as security forces continued their operations despite inclement weather and challenging terrain.
The gunfight, lasting more than an hour, took place at Jaddan Bata village in the Kastigarh area at around 2 am when terrorists opened fire on a temporary security camp established in a government school for the ongoing search operations, the officials said.

Doda, July 18: Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ramban-Doda Range, Shridhar Patil visited the encounter site at Kastigarh in Doda on Thursday and said that the operation is in progress.

JAMMU, July 18: The security forces on Thursday opened fire on at least two suspicious persons close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Sunderbani area of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.
The Border Security Force (BSF) troops noticed two suspects and fired at them early on Thursday, said sources.
“The troops fired a few rounds at the suspects and also alerted the nearby posts,” a source said.
Sources added that the Army troops deployed in the Sunderbani sector also fired some rounds.

SRINAGAR, July 18: Senior advocate and former general secretary of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association Mohammad Ashraf Bhat was arrested from his residence here and booked under the Public Safety Act, officials said on Thursday.
Bhat was arrested from his residence in Rawalpora area of the city late on Wednesday night and booked under the PSA, they said.
The former general secretary of the Bar Association was shifted to Kathua jail in Jammu region.
Bhat is the third senior functionary of the Bar Association to be arrested.

Joint Director of Academic Affairs at KU said the campuses shall observe the vacation from July-25 to August-03.

JAMMU, July 18: A fresh batch of 4,383 pilgrims left a base camp here for the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas early Thursday, officials said.
The 21st batch of pilgrims, which included 1,086 women and eight children, left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a convoy of 157 vehicles at 3.15 am, they said.
While the 2,682 pilgrims will be reaching Pahalgam to undertake the yatra from the traditional 48-km route in Anantnag district, the rest of 1,701 pilgrims have opted for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
