Death rates low despite rise in Covid cases due to vaccination: Centre | | | Agencies
New Delhi, July 22 : The COVID-19 case trajectory in some states is witnessing an upward trend since May but hospitalisation and death rates are low which can be attributed to immunisation efforts across India, the Lok Sabha was told Friday.
Such “waxing and waning course of infection trajectory are not unusual for pandemics due to novel pathogens”, said Union Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar in reply to whether the government has conducted any study to find out the reasons for such a rise in cases.
A number of factors, including unexposed and immunocompromised population, change in virus characteristics and waning immunity, tend to contribute to such phenomenon, she said.
“The current surge is associated with a lower rate of hospitalisation and deaths, which may be attributed to considerable efforts made towards COVID-19 immunization across the country,” Pawar said in her written reply.

Jammu, July 22: The fake social media handle of a senior official of the Jammu and Kashmir Police posted in south Kashmir has taken the JKP by surprise.
Sources said the fake Twitter handle in the name of a senior police official posted in Shopian district has been found active for around a month and posts regularly.
Sources said the Twitter handle has been “found to be posting tweets which a commoner can mistake as being from the original Twitter handle.”

Bhaderwah, July 22: Security forces on Friday busted a hideout and recovered arms and explosive material in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, police said.
On specific information, the J and K Police and the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles launched a joint operation in Khasodi Chansar forest of Gandoh area and busted an old hideout of terrorists, a statement issued by police said.
One Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), one UBGL grenade, one RPG shell, 25 electronic detonators and two UBGL accessories were recovered from the hideout in a rusted condition, it said.

No fresh batch was allowed to proceed from Jammu to the base camps of the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, they said.
The highway was reopened for one-way traffic on Thursday night after its closure due to landslides and shooting stones triggered by heavy rain at several places in Ramban district, officials said.

New Delhi, July 22: As many as 1,456 seats for the NEET-PG 2021 remained vacant despite five rounds of counselling including a special round, the government told Lok Sabha Friday.
The vacant seats in respect of deemed universities were reverted to respective universities, Minister of State for Health Bharati Pravin Pawar said in a written reply.
Pawar was responding to a question on whether the seats had remained vacant even after exhausting all the permissible rounds of counselling.
