After losing hope of early assembly polls, opposition parties in J&K focus on ULB elections | | |

Jammu, July 23: After losing hope of early assembly elections in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, opposition parties have started preparations for the coming other elections.
Instead of devising a strategy for the maiden assembly polls in the Union Territory, political parties have initiated the process of fighting Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Panchayat, and Lok Sabha elections.
Three main opposition parties of the UT namely Congress, National Conference, and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have asked their workers to start preparations for the local bodies elections instead of wasting energy on Assembly polls.
In Kashmir Valley, PDP and National Conference have already given directions to the workers at the grassroots to forward lists of potential candidates for the local bodies elections including Panchayat polls.
As far as the Congress is concerned, the party has already started the process to prepare panels for potential candidates for the ULB elections.

Jammu, July 23: Even as the Urban Local Body polls are round the corner, the Peoples Democratic Party is looking for fresh faces to contest the elections for the PDP through an online survey, which has fetched the party around 1,000 applications in the recent past.
The PDP, which had formally not contested the ULB elections in 2018 looks ahead to contest the polls this time mainly through selection of the new faces.
The sources said the party has started online survey for the youth faces through a form, which asks them a number of questions. As per the sources till now, the party has received over around 1,000 online applications.

Srinagar, July 23: Rains lashed Jammu and Kashmir causing flash floods at various places while the weatherman predicted more rains during the next 24 hours, officials said on Sunday.
The MeT office forecast fairly widespread light to moderate rains during the next 24 hours, from 8-30 AM on Sunday, over J&K.
The weather is likely to remain partly to generally cloudy with a chance of a brief spell of rain at some places on July 24-25.

Ramban, July 23: Two people were seriously injured on Sunday when they came under a landslide while working at a gypsum mine in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, police officials said.
The landslide struck the mine at Haroog area of Dharamkund, 26 km from Ramban district headquarters, trapping a JCB machine operator and a dumper driver, the officials said.
They said police along with State Disaster Response Force and local volunteers immediately launched a rescue operation and pulled out driver of earthmover Ajaz Ahmed of Bhathan-Ghandri Ramban and driver Anil Singh of Dhar Road Udhampur. New Delhi, July 23: The government will soon conduct an e-auction of 808 FM radio stations across 284 cities to further increase the footprint of radio communication, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said on Sunday.
Addressing the Regional Community Radio Sammelan (North) here, Thakur said the government has also eased the processes for getting a license to operate radio stations, particularly community radio, by reducing the number of compliances.
He said India currently has 388 FM radio stations in 113 cities across 26 states and five Union Territories.
