18 months on, Lithium found in Reasi awaits auction | | |

Jammu, July 24: Found over one and half years ago in the Salal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, the Lithium block has not been successfully auctioned so far.
In a written reply in Lok Sabha, the Minister of Coal and Mines, G K Reddy said that mining and production will be carried out once the block is successfully auctioned.
He that GSI has estimated an inferred resource (G3) of 5.9 million tonnes of lithium ore with an average grade of 583 ppm having a cutoff of Li ≥ 200 ppm within bauxite in the Salal and Haimna areas of Reasi district

SRINAGAR, July 24: An unidentified terrorist was killed and a soldier was martyred in an overnight encounter in Kupwara district, officials said on Wednesday.
The Army and police had launched an anti-terrorist operation in the Lolab area of Kupwara a few days ago following information about possible terrorist movements, the officials said.

JAMMU, July 24: More than 2,900 pilgrims left Jammu for the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security arrangements on Wednesday morning, officials said. More than four lakh pilgrims have already paid obeisance at the naturally-formed ice lingam at the cave shrine, as compared to the over 4.5 lakh last year.
The 27th batch of 2,907 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here at 3:40 am in 103 vehicles under Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) escort.

JAMMU, July 24: The Government on Wednesday said that over 1 crore tourists have visited Jammu and Kashmir till June this year while several measures have been taken that led to significant improvement in the tourism sector. Replying to a question of MP Dinesh Sharma, Minister of state for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, said that the tourism sector in J&K has witnessed unprecedented growth post abrogation of Article 370.
He said that 34,70,834 tourists visited J&K in 2020, 1,13,14,884 in 2021 followed by 1,88,64,332 in 2022, 2,11,24,874 in 2023 and 1,08,41,009 till June this year so far.

SRINAGAR, July 24: In a major relief to power consumers, the J&K Power Development Department (PDD) today announced that the Jammu & Kashmir government has taken a significant decision to absorb any increase in electricity tariff in the current financial year (2024-25) by continuing its support in the form of subsidy on electricity bills.
The decision of the government will effectively offset any rise in tariff requirements as projected by the Distribution Companies (discoms) i.e. JPDCL for Jammu region and KPDCL for Kashmir region, for covering the rising power purchase cost, inflation and other factors and also to bridge the revenue gap.
