The government has ordered the extraction of two BSF battalions, comprising more than 2,000 personnel, from Odisha to beef up security in the terror-hit Jammu region along the India-Pakistan border, official sources said on Saturday.

New Delhi/Srinagar, July 27: An Army personnel was martyred and four others, including a captain, were injured as the Indian Army on Saturday foiled an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT) in Kamakari sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, military sources said.
A Pakistani intruder was also killed in the exchange of fire, they added.
The BAT generally comprises special forces personnel of the Pakistan Army and terrorists.
“Action by Border Action Team has been foiled by alert Indian Army troops on Saturday morning in Kamakari sector,” one of the sources said.

JAMMU, July 27: Eight members of a family, including five children, were killed when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge near Daksum in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday, officials said.
A policeman, two women and five children aged between six and 16 are among the dead, they said.
The victims were travelling from Kishtwar towards Marwah via the Sinthan Top when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell off the gorge at Daksum, officials said.
The family of eight died on the spot, they said.

The Sudarshan S-400 air defence missile system achieved a major success in a recent exercise where it ‘shot down’ 80 per cent of the ‘enemy’ fighter aircraft package while forcing others to retreat, aborting their missions. The exercise was carried out by the Indian Air Force in a theatre where the force has deployed one of its squadrons of the long-range air defence missile system, defence sources said.

JAMMU, July 27: More than 1,700 pilgrims left a base camp here for the Amarnath shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security early on Saturday, officials said. More than 4.45 lakh pilgrims have so far paid obeisance at the naturally-formed ice lingam at the 3,880-metre high cave shrine, they said.
The pilgrim footfall at the shrine is likely to surpass last year’s tally of 4.5 lakh later in the day.
