Jammu, July 28: In a bid to gear up the ongoing process of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi is contemplating another “major offensive” against terror in the valley soon.
Sources said the central government has recently discussed the issue of “major offensive” against the terror network at a high level meeting, particularly in Kashmir region. Sources said the offensive was likely to be launched in the second half of the month of August when around 350 additional companies of central armed police forces, presently deployed for a specific duty in the valley, would be relieved of that existing assignment.
A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of anonymity that in the wake of extraordinary security arrangements for some ongoing events of religious significance coupled with the preparedness for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, “the movement and activities of the terror groups have been paralyzed.”

Jammu, July 28: Continuing the process to rename educational institutions after martyrs and eminent personalities, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday accorded the sanction to rename eighteen schools.
According to an order issued by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to the Government of J&K, the decision to rename these schools was taken in the Administrative Council (AC) meeting held under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on July 22. Srinagar, July 28: Amarnath yatra has been temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes due to inclement weather on Thursday, officials said.
They said no yatri was allowed to proceed from traditional Nunwan Pahalgam base camp in south Kashmir today due to inclement weather. The pilgrims bound to Amarnath cave shrine to pay obeisance were also not allowed to proceed from the halting points of Chandanwari and Panjtarni.

Srinagar, July 28: Srinagar and other major parts of the Kashmir valley received heavy rainfall, which inundated many low lying areas and caused flash floods on Thursday.
The Meteorological Department forecast widespread light to moderate rain in the next 24 hours.
Srinagar and nearby areas received heavy rainfall overnight, causing waterlogging in many lanes and bylanes of the city. People alleged that bad drainage forced the rainwater to seep into houses at various places including Shaheedgunj.

Jammu, July 28: Authorities rescued students and teachers trapped in a government school after heavy rainfall triggered flash floods inundating many areas of the Jammu region on Thursday, officials said.
