JAMMU, July 2: At least 10 pilgrims returning from the Amarnath yatra were injured when they jumped out of a moving bus in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district after the driver informed them about the failure of its breaks, officials on Tuesday said.
The bus was, however, stopped by the army and police personnel, thus averting a possible accident along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, they said.
The officials said the bus was carrying 40 pilgrims who were returning to Hoshiarpur in Punjab, adding the driver failed to stop the vehicle on reaching Nachlana near Banihal due to failure of its breaks.

JAMMU, July 2: A fresh batch of more than 6,500 pilgrims left for the Amarnath shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas from here on Tuesday amid tight security, officials said.
On Monday, more than 23,000 devotees paid obeisance at the 3,880-metre high cave shrine, taking the total number of pilgrims past the 51,000 mark, officials said. More than 2,000 on-the-spot registrations of devotees were done on Monday, they said.

The two cabs of same colour were seized from the Jammu bus stand area on specific information, he said.

NEW DELHI, July 2: The southwest monsoon has covered the entire country six days ahead of the normal date despite making sluggish progress during mid-June, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday.
The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab today. Thus, it covered the entire country on July 2, 2024, against the normal date of July 8,” the IMD said in a statement.
