SRINAGAR, July 29: The number of pilgrims who paid obeisance to Lord Shiva at Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir in this year’s yatra has crossed 4.65 lakh, surpassing the total number of pilgrims who visited the naturally formed ice lingam last year.
According to officials, over 7,500 pilgrims paid obeisance at the 3,880 metre high cave shrine on Monday. This has taken the number of pilgrims this year to 4,66,342 as against 4.59 lakh pilgrims last year.
“As many as 7,556 pilgrims performed the yatra on Monday and had darshan of Baba Bholenath on the 31st day of the annual yatra,” the officials said.

Jammu, July 29: More than 1,800 pilgrims left a base camp in Jammu for the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security arrangements on Monday, officials said.

The defence ministry on Monday approved procurement of navigation system for armoured fighting vehicles of the Indian Army and 22 interceptor boats for the Coast Guard. The acquisition proposals were cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) that was chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

SRINAGAR, July 29: Four persons were killed in a blast in the Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said here. The blast occurred inside the shop of a scrap dealer at Sher Colony in Sopore town of Baramulla district.
Some people were unloading scrap from a truck when the incident occurred, the officials said.
While two persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries later, they said, adding the deceased have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Nadroo (40), Aazim Ashraf Mir (20), Aadil Rashid Bhat (23) and Mohammad Azhar (25).
All the victims were residents of Sher Colony.

JAMMU, July 29: About 30 people were injured after a mini bus overturned on the outskirts of Jammu city on Monday, officials said.
The mini bus, on its way to Akhnoor from Maira Mandrian, was travelling at high speed when it skidded off the road and turned turtle near Khuga Morh, they said.
About 30 people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment and first aid, they added.

SRINAGAR, July 29: Most parts of the Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, experienced rainfall on Monday, bringing relief to residents after a prolonged spell of dry, hot, and humid weather.
While rains brought relief, Srinagar recorded its hottest minimum temperature at 24.8°C during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, marking the second highest minimum temperature in 132 years, a weather department official said.
Officials said light to moderate rain fell in Srinagar and its surrounding areas on Monday afternoon, providing much-needed respite from the sweltering sun and oppressive weather. Residents and tourists alike were seen enjoying the rainfall.
