IT returns fraud: Crime Branch raids multiple locations, over 28,000 Govt employees in dock | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 3: After detecting over 28000 government employees for adopting fraudulent means in filing Income Tax Return (ITR), the multiple teams of the Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar on Monday carried out searches at various residences and offices in a case related to this case.
The Income Tax Department has singled out over 28,000 government servants for claiming bogus refunds worth crores of rupees.
These employees have reportedly attached fake documents while filing their income tax returns to claim refunds.
Those under the scanner of the Income Tax Department included police and paramilitary force personnel deployed in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports said that these frauds were detected during the analyzing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) filing seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
The alleged irregularities came to light sometime back after the Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) wing of the department located in Srinagar found that a number of people who are assessed in the Union Territory of J-K had claimed excessive and ineligible deductions.

Srinagar, July 3: Amid forecast for hot and humid weather, the minimum temperature recorded rise in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
An official of the meteorological department said that “mainly clear, hot and humid” weather was expected till July 4 even as a “brief spell of showers may occur in some areas towards late afternoon and evening”.
From July 5 evening to July 7, he said, intermittent light to moderate rain at many places of Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, July 3: The Election Commission on Monday came up with an online portal to allow registered political parties to file their financial statements, including contribution reports and poll expenditure accounts, a move seen as an effort to bring in more transparency in disclosures made by political entities.

NEW DELHI, July 3: Nearly four years after the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave special status to the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir, a Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will hear a batch of 20-odd petitions challenging the Central government’s move.
The Bench also comprises Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and Surya Kant.
