Cloudburst near Amarnath Shrine leaves 15 dead | PM reviews situation, assures all possible help | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, July 8: At least 15 persons were killed in a cloudburst near the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas Friday evening, damaging 25 tents and three community kitchens, officials said.
The cloudburst struck around 5.30 pm amid heavy rainfall, they said.
The gushing waters hit the base camp outside the shrine, damaging 25 tents and three community kitchens where the pilgrims are served food, they said.
15 persons were killed in the incident even as police, army and ITBP personnel launched a rescue operation, the officials said.

New Delhi, July 8: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Friday directed central forces and Jammu and Kashmir administration to ensure swift operations to rescue people affected in the cloudburst near the base camp of Amarnath holy cave.
Shah said in a Tweet in Hindi that he has spoken to J&K LG Manoj Sinha to take stock of the situation following the cloudburst that struck around 5:30 pm. "NDRF, CRPF, BSF and local administration are engaged in the rescue work.

JAMMU, July 8: An elderly man died while two persons were washed away in two separate incidents of landslide and flash floods triggered by heavy rains across Jammu region on Friday morning.
Police said a 60-yr-old man died when he was buried under landslide in Mandi area of Poonch.
Police teams and locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.

BANIHAL/JAMMU, July 8: One-way traffic movement resumed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after remaining suspended for several hours since Friday morning following landslides triggered by heavy rain in Ramban district, officials said. Vehicles carrying Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, that were stranded on the highway, have been allowed to move towards Kashmir, they said.
“The traffic on one way of the highway has been restored and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims taking the Baltal route, who were stranded at Chanderkoot in Ramban since morning, have been allowed to move,” an official said.
