Ahead of Independence Day celebrations, security beefed up in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 12: The security has been stepped up across the Jammu division ahead of Independence Day celebrations, particularly around the Maulana Azad Stadium--the main venue of the function here.
However, alert has also been sounded around Indian Air Force base and all military establishments as drone threats loomed large across the region.
On June 27, two bombs were airdropped at high security zone of Jammu Air Force Station in which two IAF personnel got injured.
In the last more than one month, drone activity has increased manifold in various parts of Jammu region.
''As per intelligence inputs, terrorist outfits may attempt to carry out attacks in the region to disrupt peaceful celebrations of Independence Day,'' a senior police officer said.
He said besides drone threats, infiltration attempts are also being made from across the border while alert security forces have also seized large quantity of arms and ammunition from various hideouts in the recent past.

Srinagar, Aug 12: Drones are being pressed into service to keep a strict vigil during Independence Day (ID) celebrations in major towns in the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, where Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will hoist the national flag on August 15.
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified foot patrolling and random checking of vehicles to foil any attempt by militants to smuggle in arms and ammunition from outskirts in the city for causing disturbance on or before ID.

Srinagar, Aug 12: The Government on Thursday informed that 176 new positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19), 96 from Jammu division and 80 from Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 323061.Also 02 COVID deaths have been reported from Jammu Division.
Moreover, 164 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals including 75 from Jammu Division and 89 from Kashmir Division.
Besides this, 99.63 percent of population above the age of 45 years has been vaccinated across the Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar, Aug 12: Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway was resumed on Thursday after remaining suspended for weekly maintenance yesterday.
The other roads, including Srinagar-Leh national highway, the only road linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir, historic Mughal road and Anantnag-Sinthan-Kishtwar road are also open, a traffic police official said today.
He said no traffic was allowed from Srinagar or Jammu Wednesday to allow National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake weekly maintenance and repair on the road.

Jammu, Aug 12: Army on Thursday pressed the Remote Operated Vehicles (ROV) technology into service to locate the two pilots, who went missing after their helicopter crashed on August 3 into deep waters of the Ranjit Sagar Lake in Basohli tehsil of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.
“As per reports some parts of wreckage of the crashed helicopter have been found but efforts are still on to locate the missing pilots,” defence sources said.
They said that remotely operated special equipment, ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle), had been pressed into service on Thursday to locate them.
