Jammu, Aug 18: The 10-day Budha Amarnath Yatra began on Friday with a batch of over 1,000 pilgrims leaving the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here for Jammu and Kashmir’s mountainous Poonch district.
Chants of “Bam Bam Bhole”, “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Shri Ram” rent the air as the pilgrims’ convoy was flagged off by Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Zone, Mukesh Singh . A total of 1,338 pilgrims, including 907 men and 411 women, left for the Budha Amarnath shrine in Poonch’s Rajpura village in a convoy of 29 vehicles.

Srinagar, Aug 18: Security forces have recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Army said on Friday.
“Joint Operation launched by #IndianArmy, @BSF_Kashmir and @JmuKmrPolice in #Machhal Sector #Kupwara from 15-18 Aug 23 based on Intelligence inputs by various agencies of likely presence of a cache of war like stores,” Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of the Army said on X, formerly Twitter.
The Army said a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK rifles, seven pistols, four hand grenades and other incriminating material were recovered.

Jammu, Aug 18: Nearly two weeks after the gunfight, the team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) has recovered the body of a second terrorist from the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Notably, on August 5, security forces neutralised one terrorist in a fierce gunfight that erupted in the Khawas area of Rajouri district.
Another terrorist was injured in the operation.

Bengaluru, Aug 18: Announcing that the health of Chandrayaan-3’s Lander Module is normal, ISRO on Friday said that the module has successfully undergone a deboosting (slowing down) operation taking it closer to the Moon.
The Lander Module comprising the lander (Vikram) and the rover (Pragyan), will undergo its second deboosting operation on August 20. This will lower the module to an orbit that takes it much closer to the Moon’s surface.
The soft landing of the Lander on the Lunar south pole is scheduled on August 23.
