BJP chooses August 5 to launch election campaign | Commemorating Article 370 Repeal | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 1: As the Election Commission of India has started the process of conducting assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir along with three other states, the BJP has decided to formally start the election campaign on August 5 from the border town of R S Pura. Although BJP leaders are tight-lipped over the presence of senior leaders in the scheduled rally in R S Pura, sources said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to address the function.
“Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to address the rally but there is no official confirmation so far”, a senior BJP leader said and added that Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, who is election incharge of J&K along with Tarun Chugh, incharge J&K BJP will address the rally”.
On June 17, the BJP has appointed Union Minister G Kishan Reddy as the election in-charge for Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP has intentionally chosen August 5 to start the election campaign in Jammu province as this day marks the completion of five years after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A.

The district administration in Srinagar started the works for fencing of sides of various major bridges in the City and the works will be completed by September 10, 2024, an official spokesman said. New Delhi, Aug 1:
India is predicted to record above-normal rainfall in August and September, with a good chance of favourable La Nina conditions developing by the end of August, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
The monsoon is critical for India’s agricultural landscape, with 52 per cent of the net cultivated area relying on it. The primary rain-bearing system is also crucial for replenishing reservoirs critical for drinking water and power generation across the country.
The IMD said that rainfall over India in August and September would be 106 per cent of the long-period average of 422.8 mm.

SAMBA/JAMMU, Aug 1: A Pakistani intruder was gunned down by BSF troops along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior officer said on Thursday.

POONCH, Aug 1: Army’s Rashtriya Rifle unit attached to the Romeo Force, in a joint operation with Poonch police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), apprehended An active associate of the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), a banned terror outfit, from the Magnar area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch.
According to an army statement, the terrorist identified as Mohammed Khalil was taken into custody by the Rashtriya Rifle of the Romeo Force on July 30.
The officials said that a foreign pistol was recovered from the terrorist. They have also traced an active WhatsApp number based in Pakistan, through which a handler was assigning tasks to Mohammed Khalil.

Jammu, Aug 1: The strategic Jammu-Srinagar national highway was thrown open for vehicular movement after a brief closure due to shooting stones and mudslides triggered by the rains across the region. “The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed in the morning in view of heavy rains that triggered mudslides at Hingni and intermittent shooting stones at Mehad, Panthiyal, T2, and Kishtwari Pather,” Rohit Baskotra, SSP Highway, said.

SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Police on Thursday attached a commercial complex allegedly acquired through illicit drug trade in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. In a significant blow to drug traffickers, Bijbehara Police Station has attached a commercial complex valued at over Rs 2 crore, belonging to the late Abdul Rashid Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara.
