Reconstituting CWC: Cong ignores Jammu | • First time there is no representative from Jammu in the highest decision-making body of Congress | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 20: Congress high command on Sunday nominated two prominent faces from Jammu and Kashmir namely Ghulam Ahmed Mir and Tariq Hamid Karra in the newly constituted Congress Working Committee (CWC)-the highest decision-making body of the party.
Mir and Karra belong to Kashmir Valley so there is no representation from Jammu in the highest decision-making body of the grand-old party.
It is the first time that there is no representation of Jammu in the CWC. Earlier Ghulam Nabi Azad and Dr. Karan Singh used to represent Jammu in the CWC.
Dr. Karan Singh, the former Sadr-e-Risayat of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, is the son of the last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh, was dropped when CWC was reconstituted in 2018 by the then Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Jammu, Aug 20: Amid protests by opposition parties and some sections of society against the installation of electricity smart meters, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured that every step will be taken keeping in view the interest and welfare of the people.
Addressing a function at Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said that a high-level meeting will be held at Srinagar on Monday to discuss the situation that emerged after some people aired their apprehension about pre-paid meters.

Jammu, Aug 20: With an aim to cater the rush of visitors and boost the economy of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has nodded for the expansion and new state-of-art facilities loaded infrastructure at Jammu Airport, which will be completed by 2026.
“The rush of visitors in Jammu is swelling day by day and expansion of Jammu Airport was much needed,” official sources in Airports Authority of India (AAI) told UNI.
They said that the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has cleared decks for expansion of Jammu Airport and the new building laced with modern facilities will be constructed on 40,000 square meters of land near Belicharana area.

New Delhi, Aug 20: The defence sector has made giant strides towards achieving self-reliance in the last nine years and most of the weapons being used by the armed forces are made in India, Defence Minister Rajnatjh Singh said on Saturday.
Describing the significance of ‘Aatmanirbharta’, Singh said, “Without self-reliance, we cannot take independent decisions on global issues in line with our national interests.”
“The dependence on import of defence equipment is a hindrance to India’s strategic autonomy. Imports adversely affect the balance of trade that is detrimental to our economy,” he said.
