As Security Forces gain upper hand in Kashmir, terror groups shift towards Poonch-Rajouri | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 21: A high-level security meeting convened by the top brass of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies at Rajouri on Saturday evening is an indication that forces are on their toes after a spike in terror activities in the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
With the support of the local population, forces have made this border belt almost “free from terrorism” after assiduous efforts but now Pakistan-based terror mentors are desperately trying to revive terror groups in this region.
Although intelligence agencies were keeping a strict vigil on the sensitive areas of this border, forces have decided to devise a fresh strategy to counter terrorism in this mountainous region after the August 11 pre-dawn suicidal attack on an Army camp in the Darhal area of Rajouri district.
After a gap of over five years, terrorists stormed into an Army camp in this belt in which four soldiers including one JCO lost their lives in the gun battle before eliminating two terrorists, believed to be Pakistani.

NEW DELHI, Aug 21: Universities and higher education institutions across the country will now be allowed to create up to 25 per cent supernumerary seats for foreign students in their undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programmes while the students will not be required to go through the entrance process for admissions in India, according to the UGC.
A decision in this regard was taken at a University Grants Commission (UGC) meeting last week on “internationalisation of UG and PG programmes in India”, officials said.

Srinagar, Aug 21: Student enrolment in government schools in Jammu and Kashmir was steadily declining before 2019, but in the last two years it has increased by 14.5 per cent, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said here.
Sustained efforts were being made for early childhood care and education as recommended by the national education policy, he said on Saturday.
"In the three years before 2019, there was a continuous decrease in enrolment in government schools. However, in the last two years, enrolment has increased by 14.5 per cent," the L-G said, addressing the annual day function at the Devki Arya Putri Pathshala.

Jammu, Aug 21: Radio-frequency identity cards have been introduced on a trial basis for pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said on Sunday.
The radio-frequency identification system is based on wireless technology which can be tracked through radio waves. The tags can carry encrypted information, serial numbers and short descriptions.
"The RFID technology was put in place last week on a trial basis from Balganga and Tarakote enroute to the cave shrine, aimed at tracking the movement of pilgrims on a real-time basis," a senior official of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said.

SRINAGAR, Aug 21: The Government today informed that 276 fresh positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19) have been reported today; 41 from Jammu division and 235 from Kashmir division, thus taking the total number of positive cases to 476044.
Moreover, 589 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 70 from Jammu division and 519 from Kashmir division.
