Jammu, Aug 2: Asserting that the Jammu and Kashmir government is capable to smash the ecosystem of terrorism from its roots, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said his administration in the Valley is committed to establishing sustainable peace in the Union Territory.
“Instead of following the past practice of buying peace by holding talks with terrorists, we will establish peace by eradicating terrorism from the soil of Jammu and Kashmir", he said during an interaction with a national TV channel.
The Lieutenant Governor said the security forces have gained the upper hand in countering terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and are working to destroy the terror ecosystem in the Union Territory.
During the last seven months of this year, 130 terrorists have been eliminated including 37 foreigners. “As of now, there is not even a single top commander of terrorist outfits is alive. 1500 waterbodies to be rejuvenated in J&K by Aug 2023 | | |

Jammu, Aug 2: The Union Government has set a target of rejuvenating and reviving about 50,000 water bodies across the country by August 2023 to rise the level of groundwater.
Bishweswar Tudu, Minister of State for Jal Shakti informed the Rajya Sabha that the "Amrit Sarovar Mission" has been launched in April 2022 with the aim to develop and rejuvenate 75 water bodies of size one acre or more, in each district of the country.
With a target of 75 water bodies in one district, 1500 water bodies to be rejuvenated in across J&K.

Jammu, Aug 2: The brave sniffer dog of the Indian Army, who was recently killed in a gunfight with terrorists in Baramulla was specially trained to carry a camera along for live shooting of the encounters.
Highly placed sources told the Early Times that the two-year-old assault dog by the name of Axel, who was hit around the head by three bullets and killed instantly after being sent to sniff out the terror location, was carrying a special camera along on his back for the operation.
Sources said Axel was specially-trained to carry “back-mounted” camera for the live video footage of the encounter spots to be monitored at control rooms.

Jammu, Aug 2: The alert troops of Border Security Force fired at a flying object with blinking light, suspected to be drone along the international border in Kanhachak sector of Jammu.A BSF official here on Tuesday said that late last night BSF troops fired at an unidentified flying object with blinking light in Kanhachak area as it tried to cross International Border. "The blinking light was not observed by troops thereafter but the search of area is in progress along with police and other agencies. Nothing has been recovered so far," he added.

New Delhi, Aug 2: Over 84,600 posts are lying vacant in six paramilitary forces, including CRPF and BSF, while 1.12 lakh posts were filled up in these forces in the last three years, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told Lok Sabha today. Mr Rai said as that according to the instructions of the Department of Personnel and Training, 10 per cent vacancies in the paramilitary forces are reserved for ex-servicemen up to the level of assistant commandant to be filled by direct recruitment.

Srinagar, Aug 2: The annual Amarnath Yatra resumed on Tuesday from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes after remaining suspended temporarily for a day due to inclement weather, officials said.
They said fresh batches of pilgrims were allowed to proceed from the traditional Nunwan-Pahalgam base camp and the shorter Baltal via Dumail amid clear and dry weather conditions. As many as 633 pilgrims, including 105 women, five sadhus and five children proceed via Domail to undertake the trek to the Himalayan cave shrine. A total of 198 pilgrims were also airlifted from the Baltal base camp to Amarnath for prayers till 11 am.

Jammu, Aug 2: A batch of 570 pilgrims on Tuesday left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here to pay obeisance at the 3,880-metre-high cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.
The 43-day Yatra began on June 30 from the twin routes -- the traditional 48-km from Nunwan in Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag, and the 14-km shorter but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir.

Jammu, Aug 2: Vehicular traffic on the historic Mughal Road in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir was suspended on Tuesday after it was hit by a massive landslide, officials said.
The road, which connects Poonch and Rajouri districts in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian, is an alternative road to the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The Mughal Road was blocked due to landslide triggered by heavy rains in Poshana area, thereby bringing the traffic to halt, they said.
