Gunmen kill narcotics smuggler in Kupwara | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 29: Unknown gunmen killed a narcotic smuggler in Jammu Kashmir’s Kupwara district, police said on Tuesday.
They said during the intervening night of August 28/29, at about 2200 hours some sound of gunshots were heard in Haridal area of Police Post Teetwal Karnah.
Upon hearing the gunshots, a swift search operation was launched by local Police and Army unit in the area that led to the discovery of the lifeless body of Mukhtar Ahmad Shah, (42) of Panjtaran Karnah. The deceased’s body was found in the village of Pingla Haridal.
Police shifted the body to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Tangdhar for necessary medico-legal procedures.
Subsequent to the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family for final rites.
A case has been registered under appropriate sections, and a thorough investigation has been initiated.
Police said preliminary investigations suggest that the deceased has been killed by some rival narcotics smuggling gang members or the rival terror operatives.

Body of missing engineer found in Baramulla | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 29: Days after a senior engineer went missing, his body was found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said. Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Gurmeet Singh, who was posted in Baramulla, was missing since August 25 evening. Officials said his body was retrieved from a barrage in the Gantamulla area of Baramulla. “The body has been taken for the medical examination,” they said.
J&K police confirmed that the body of missing engineer has been found.
Soon after the AEE went missing on Friday evening, Police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the case.

Srinagar, Aug 29: Jammu and Kashmir’s Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Tuesday arrested Sarjan Ahmad Wagay alias Barkati, the face of 2016 protests in Kashmir, officials said.
They said Barkati was arrested in a case registered in Police station SIA this year. Officials said the case pertains to Barkati’s involvement in allegedly orchestrating an extensive fund-raising campaign through crowd funding, resulting in the generation of funds amounting to crores.
“These funds were subsequently misused, involving money laundering and acquisition of undisclosed assets for propagation of radicalism within the Kashmir valley,” they said.

Srinagar, Aug 29: A local court here on Tuesday granted bail to alleged Gujarat conman Kiran Patel who was arrested for posing as a top official in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in March this year.
The court of chief judicial magistrate, Srinagar, granted bail to Patel lodged in central jail here, one of his lawyers Anil Raina said. He said the court granted bail to Patel on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and two local sureties of the same amount.

New Delhi, Aug 29: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said that the Union Cabinet’s decision to reduce domestic LPG cylinder prices was not linked to upcoming assembly polls and was about providing relief to people.
“It has got nothing to do with elections and it is all to do with relief measures and benefits to be given to the users,” Thakur said in response to a question at a press conference on decisions of the union cabinet.
