Kishtwar, Aug 30: Eight people were killed and 3 others sustained injuries, two of them critically after the Tata Sumo in which they were traveling met with an accident near Bonda village in Chatroo sub division in this frontier district on Tuesday.
According to details available with Early Times the driver of the ill fated vehicle bearing (No. JK17-9117) lost control over his vehicle as a result of which it skided off the road and fell into a 400/500 feet deep gorge.

Jammu, Aug 30: It appears to be part of a scripted plan to submit mass resignations as soon as Rajya Sabha member Rajni Patil landed in Jammu because Rahul Gandhi has assigned her job to lure loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Although Tara Chand and other leaders were already in touch with Azad, they intentionally decided to submit mass resignations on that particular day when AICC incharge of J&K reached Jammu along with newly appointed PCC president Vikar Rasood Wani.
Giving a big jolt to the party more than 64 senior Congress leaders, including former Jammu and Kashmir deputy chief minister Tara Chand, resigned from the party.

Jammu, Aug 30: Former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who quit the Congress last week and has decided to float a political party, will hold a public meeting on September 4 at Sainik Colony in Jammu.
This will be his first meeting since he snapped his nearly 50-year-long association with Congress. The public meeting is scheduled for 11 am.
Azad has said that he will launch a new party soon and the first unit will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir in view of impending assembly polls. Azad was Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008.
With Azad signalling that he will float a new party, several leaders have resigned from the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi, Aug 30: Senior Congress leaders and members of G-23 Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Anand Sharma and Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday met Ghulam Nabi Azad at his residence, days after the leader from Jammu and Kashmir resigned from the party after blaming the leadership.
Sharma, Hooda and Chavan held discussions at Azad’s residence and are learnt to have discussed the future strategy of the G-23.
The Congress leaders are learnt to have also discussed the organisational elections, including that of the Congress president, amid reports that Shashi Tharoor, who is a member of the group, is considering contesting the election for the top party post.

Srinagar, Aug 30: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nagbal area of Shopian following information about presence of terrorists there, a police official said.
The official said the search operation turned into an encounter in which three ultras were gunned down.

Jammu, Aug 30: The 9.8 km tunnel connecting two stations on the 111 km under-construction Banihal-Katra railway link in Jammu and Kashmir has been completed, officials said.
It is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Line (USBRL) project. This is the third tunnel following the 12.6 km tunnel T-49B, the longest tunnel of Indian Railways, which was completed in January this year.

SRINAGAR, Aug 30: The Government today informed that 131 fresh positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19) have been reported today; 22from Jammu division and 109 from Kashmir division, thus taking the total number of positive cases to 477644.
Moreover, 260 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 50 from Jammu division and 210 from Kashmir division.
