Washing away of Tarnah Bridge: “Culprits” likely to face action | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 30: Although the visiting high-level team of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) refused to comment on the reason for the washing away of the Tarnah Bridge, some officers are likely to face the music because it is established during the initial investigation that the crucial bridge was damaged due to human error.
While the locals alleged that the bridge collapsed due to the brutal mining of sand and Bajri by the companies involved in the widening of the Jammu-Pathankot national highway, some others alleged that executing agencies compromised with the quality.
Important to mention here that the Tarnah bridge near Dayalachak on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway suffered extensive damage when a portion of bridge caved in, stalling movement of traffic on this busy highway, on July 19 morning, after the reported flash flood in the river. Washington, Aug 30: About 80 per cent of Indians have a favourable view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and around seven in 10 Indians believe their country has recently become more influential, according to a survey by the PEW Research Center.
The survey, released ahead of the G20 Summit, also noted that public opinion of India was generally positive across the world with a median of 46 per cent reporting favourable views of India as compared to 34 per cent unfavourable views. Sixteen per cent did not share an opinion at all.
Views of India are most positive in Israel, where 71 per cent say they have a favourable view of the country, the report said.

Jammu, Aug 30: Security forces on Wednesday conducted searches at over half a dozen villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials said.
The searches were carried out jointly by the police and the Army in Gursai and Mendhar areas of the border district following information about the movement of suspected persons, they said.
However, no one was apprehended during the operation, which lasted several hours, the officials aid.
They said the security checkpoints on Poonch-Mendhar road were also strengthened and all incoming and outgoing vehicles were being checked thoroughly.
