JAMMU, Aug 7: A 60-year-old woman died in a house collapse and several structures were washed away as heavy rain lashed large parts of the
Jammu region, throwing life out of gear on Wednesday, officials said.
Kako Devi was buried alive along with her two cows when her mud-house collapsed due to heavy rain in the Gundha village of Khawas in Rajouri district in the early hours, they said.

The Election Commission announced on Wednesday, as the date for Elections for 12 vacant seats in Rajya Sabha.
As per the ECI, the last date for making notification is August 21, and the scrutiny of nominations will be held on August 22. About 4,264 applications received on the PM Cares for Children portal have been rejected, the government said on Wednesday, listing non-eligibility as the reason for rejection under the scheme for children orphaned during the Covid pandemic.
The scheme was launched by the prime minister to support children who have lost both parents or legal guardian or adoptive parents or surviving parent after March 11, 2020.

JAMMU, Aug 7: A search operation for terrorists hiding in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district entered its second day on Wednesday, with additional reinforcements rushed to the area, officials said. A massive joint search operation by police, Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is underway in the Pathi Nalla Khaned area of Basantgarh, where brief contact was established with a group of terrorists late on Tuesday, they said.
