J&K Cong leaders unwilling to accommodate new entrants | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 31: Three weeks have passed after prominent politicians have joined Congress at Delhi but the present leadership of J&K Congress appears to be hesitating to properly accommodate them.
On August 7, over 20 leaders from Aam Admni Party (AAP) and Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), have joined Congress in New Delhi. Among them are four former legislators and a sitting district development council member.
Almost three weeks have passed after their joining but none of these leaders were formally invited in the Congress headquarters at Sheedhi Chowk in Jammu to felicitate them.
Highly placed sources said that old guards of the party were not ready to allow these leaders to give space for these new entrants in the party.
“After get them enrolled in the party, local leadership has not contacted any of the new entrants”, a source said and added that Congress is organizing protest rallies in different parts of Jammu province against installation of the electricity smart meters and collection of toll tax at Sarore Toll Plaza but ... | |

Jammu, Aug 31: A few days after expressing hope on holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, a senior politician from Kashmir feels “disappointed.”
In the last few weeks, the senior politician, a separatist turned mainstream leader, who heads a political party in Kashmir, has shown alleged “mood-swings several times.”
A few weeks ago, he thanked his lawyer for pleading the case on August 5, 2019 decision before the Supreme Court and subsequently has been hitting right left and center on issues related to Kashmir.

Jammu, Aug 31: Elections in Jammu and Kashmir can take place any time and a decision on the issue has to be taken by the poll panel, the Centre told the Supreme Court on Thursday while giving a roadmap for restoration of electoral democracy and complete statehood in the union territory.
A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud was told by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the decision on elections in J-K have to be taken by the Election Commission of India and the state poll panel.
Mehta told a bench that polls in J-K will be held in three stages - first there will be panchayat polls, second municipal polls and then legislative assembly polls.

Srinagar, Aug 31: State Investigation Agency on Thursday said that it arrested 8 absconding terrorists and their associates involved in serious crimes of terrorism and disruptive activities involved in TADA cases registered around three decades ago in district Doda.
According to a statement a spokesperson said that all the arrested persons have been chargesheeted in the TADA Court Jammu.
The statement reads that these absconding terrorists had managed to escape from the clutches of law for decades by going underground and remaining untraced for sometime and then resurfaced to enjoy normal family life at their native or some distant places.

New Delhi, Aug 31: Giving an update on its Aditya-L1 mission to study the Sun, ISRO said on Wednesday the launch rehearsal and the rocket’s internal checks have been completed.
The mission is scheduled to be launched on September 2 at 11.50 am from the Sriharikota spaceport.
Aditya-L1 spacecraft is designed for providing remote observations of the solar corona and in situ observations of the solar wind at L1 (Sun-Earth Lagrangian point), which is about 1.5 million kilometres from the earth.
It will be the first dedicated Indian space mission for observations of the Sun to be launched by the Bengaluru-headquartered space agency.

JAMMU, Aug 31: The Economic Offences Wing – Crime Branch Jammu has filed charges against five individuals in a case involving fraud amounting to Rs. 67 Lakh. The accused are charged under various sections including 420, 467, 468, 471, 170, 171, and 120-B of the RPC (Ranbir Penal Code).
The case, registered under FIR No. 28/2019 at the Crime Branch Jammu, pertains to the inducement and duping of unemployed youth with false promises of appointments in the Indian Army and Military Engineering Services (MES), leading to the fraudulent acquisition of their hard-earned money.

NEW DELHI, Aug 31: India recorded an economic growth rate of 7.8 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2023-24 and remained the fastest growing large economy mainly due to better performance by agriculture and financial sectors, government data showed on Thursday.
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded by 13.1 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2022-23.
India remained the fastest-growing major economy as China posted a 6.3 per cent growth in April-June 2023.
According to the National Statistical Office (NSO) data, the agriculture sector gross value added (GVA) recorded growth of 3.5 per cent, up from 2.4 per cent in the April-June quarter of 2022-23.

JAMMU, Aug 31: Ahead of two-week long Agniveer Recruitment Rally scheduled at Akhnoor Military Station here in the city outskirts, the Army has issued an advisory instructing the aspirants to beware of touts as the selection is based “purely” on merit basis. “The candidates are advised not to pay bribes to anyone for recruitment as it is based purely on merit and the selection process during recruitment at all stages is computerised and transparent,” Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, PRO Defence Jammu said.
