Jammu, Sept 14: Amid reports that the Union Government is keen to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir as soon as possible, all mainstream political parties have kicked start preparations for the polls.
Within days after the visit of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti reached Poonch to hold interactions with the party cadre of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
Instead of reaching Jammu to visit Poonch and Rajouri, Mehbooba Mufti initially adopted the Mugal Road track to enter twin border districts.

New Delhi, Sept 14: General Manager Northern Railway, Ashutosh Gangal, on Tuessday held a safety review meeting with the departmental heads of Northern Railway and with DRMs through video conferencing, a statement said.
It said that amongst many issues deliberations were held on safety on tracks, enhancement of speed, freight, punctuality and train operations.
Gangal, according to the statement, instructed that works of passenger amenities like provision of escalators, lifts, washable aprons, improvement in station building, circulating areas etc. should be given priority and must be completed in a stipulated time frame. “Safety is the prime focus over Railways,” he said.

Srinagar, Sept 14: Three civilians were injured in a grenade attack by militants in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
Official sources said that militants lobbed a grenade at a security force party at Rajpora in Pulwama. “The grenade missed the target and exploded at a distance, resulting in injuries to three civilians,” they said, adding the wounded were immediately taken to a hospital.
They said the militants managed to escape from the spot during the chaos created due to the explosion. “Additional security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers,” they added.... | |

New Delhi, Sept 14: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday urged the people of the country to take a pledge to use Hindi along with their mother tongue, saying that India needs to be 'Atmanirbhar' even with languages.
