Second phase to determine fate of Omar, Raina, Karra, Bukhari | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 23: The second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, scheduled for Wednesday, will be crucial in determining the political fate of several high-profile leaders. The presidents of two national parties, a regional party chief, and a former chief minister will have their electoral fortunes decided in this phase.
Tariq Hameed Karra, newly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Congress president is contesting from Central Shalteng in central Kashmir. Karra’s fight is with Abdul Qayom Bhat of the Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ravinder Raina (BJP President) is re-elected from Nowshera assembly segment in Rajouri district. He is locked in a tough fight with his National Conference rival Surinder Choudhary.
Altaf Bukhari J&K Apni Party chief is from Channapora in central Kashmir. In the year 2014, he won the election from the Amirakadal Assembly segment. The PDP has fielded Mohammad Iqbal Trumboo and the National Conference has fielded Mushtaq Guroo against Bukhari.

Jammu, Sept 23: As many as 21 government employees were suspended and five ad-hoc and casual labourers were disengaged from service for taking part in election campaigning in Jammu and Kashmir, an official said on Monday.
The action against the erring employees and workers was taken to ensure transparency in the ongoing assembly elections in the Union Territory, a spokesperson of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer said.

JAMMU, Sept 23: The encounter that started between security forces and terrorists at Gurinal village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on September 21 has entered its third day.
The police said on Monday that in continuation of the earlier joint search operation launched by security forces near the Danna Dhar forest area in the upper reaches of Gurinal village firing resumed as

SAMBA/JAMMU, Sept 23: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday destroyed a rusted anti-tank mine found on the banks of a river in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The mine was detected by a BSF patrolling party on the banks of the Basantar river between Ballhar and Kamour border outposts around 11 am, they said.

| | Watching child porn offence under POCSO | | | NEW DELHI, Sept 23: In a landmark verdict, the Supreme Court on Monday held that watching and downloading child pornography are offences under the POCSO Act and the information technology law. The apex court suggested Parliament consider amending the term ‘child pornography’ with “child sexually abusive and exploitative material” by bringing changes in law, and asked the courts not to use the term ‘child pornography’.
A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud set aside the Madras High Court ruling that had said mere downloading and watching child pornography was not an offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Information Technology (IT) Act.
