Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 28: Even as a section of J&K BJP leaders favoured postponing the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) in the Union Territory, the government is interested in the conduct these elections in time to ensure the smooth functioning of local self-governance. Highly placed sources said that the conduct of UBL elections are must to ensure a smooth flow of funds to continue developmental activities in different urban areas of J&K. In the absence of the elected ULBs the Union Government will stop releasing funds for the development of the urban areas because as per the rules of the Finance Commission Award, the existence of the duly elected bodies are must to get funds from the Centre. Earlier funds worth thousands of crores were lapsed when the successive governments in J&K failed to conduct ULB elections from 2010 to 2018. According to sources from the year 2010 to 2018, funds worth Rs 900 crore lapsed as successive governments failed to conduct UBL elections in J&K. Agencies New Delhi, Sept 28: The Government is working on a policy to ensure that there are no potholes on national highways by year-end and construction of roads on Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) mode is being preferred as such projects are maintained in a better manner, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday. With an aim to make the national highways free of potholes by the end of December this year, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry is firming up performance-based maintenance and short-term maintenance contracts. Agencies New Delhi, Sept 28: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Chairman, Sanjay Agarwal, has announced that India is prepared to implement a 28 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate on online gaming starting from October 1. This move comes with the consensus of all states and follows the recent passage of amendments to GST laws in the Lok Sabha. CBIC Chairman Sanjay Agarwal said, "We are ready to implement a 28 per cent GST rate on online gaming from October 1 with the consent of all the states.
