Jammu, Nov 13: Taking a cue from the recent developments in the recently concluded five-day session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the opposition BJP is looking for aggressive, educated, and young faces to be nominated for five seats in the House to the counter the ruling National Conference.
Even as over two dozen persons, political and non-political, are aspiring for five nominated seats of the Legislative Assembly, the BJP will recommend names of only those who will be able to aggressively pursue a nationalist agenda in the House.
Although the final decision has to be taken by the Lieutenant Governor, the BJP has decided to recommend names of only assertive leaders for the Assembly to take on the clever and shrewd National Conference leaders.
Highly placed sources said that the BJP leadership has realized that the ruling National Conference has a galaxy of veteran leaders who have vast experience in legislative functioning so there is a need to nominate some highly educated and learned persons in the Assembly to face the challenges of the ruling party.
Sources said that the names of some candidates were earlier finalized for nomination in the Legislative Assembly but now the party leadership is rethinking these names as the ruling National Conference has cleverly got the resolution on special status passed with the help of experienced leaders.
Although BJP has some experienced MLAs in the House, the party is now thinking of nominating youth and aggressive persons, who have political as well as legal knowledge because in the days to come many contentious issues are likely to rock the l

As per the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019, the Lieutenant Governor will nominate five MLAs in the Legislative Assembly. Two women will be nominated as per Part III of the section 15 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019.
Two representatives will be nominated from the Kashmir migrants nd one from the displaced Persons of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Provision to nominate two members from the Kashmiri Migrants and one from displaced persons from PoJK was made under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Act 2023.
The Lieutenant Governor of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir may nominate not more than two members, one of whom shall be a woman, from the community of Kashmiri Migrants to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Explanation.—For the purposes of this section, the term "Migrant" shall have the same meaning as assigned to it in clause (e) of section 2 of the Jammu and Kashmir Migrant Immovable Property (Preservation, Protection and Restraint on Distress Sales) Act, 1997.
Displaced Person from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir means any person, who, on account of the setting up of the dominions of India and Pakistan, or on account of civil disturbances or fear of such disturbances in any area of the then State of Jammu and Kashmir presently under the occupation of Pakistan, during the years 1947-48, 1965 and 1971, had left or had been displaced due to such disturbances from his place of residence in such area and who has been subsequently residing outside such area and also includes successors-in-interest of any such person”
