Locals block road for hours , traffic disrupted | Pesky power cuts irk Chatha residents | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 21: The continuous power woes have been making the lives of residents of Chatha area miserable forcing them to come on streets to stage protests against the Power Development Department (PDD). A strong protest against the PDD was held at Karan Bagh by blocking Satwari-RS Pura road by the residents of the Govindpura. The protest was held in the morning time led by Jasmeet Kour Pandey, the Jammu Cantonment Councillor. People raised slogans against PDD for long and erratic power supply in their area. While speaking to Early Times, Jasmeet Kour said that they had been facing huge problems due to irregular power. “Despite having legal power connections, the people have been subjected to power cuts in these hot summer days. Even the poor of the area have PDD connections and are being served inflated monthly power bills without taking physical meter reading by the concerned Meter Readers,” she alleged. “Although the PDD revised power loads of the consumers, we got inadequate power supply. There are power cuts after every hour and that too with multiple cuts. Department had totally failed to streamline the power supply,” Jasmeet Kour said. Damaged Transformers are not replaced, the mobile phones of the Lineman remain switched off. Even the fuse are not changed despite requesting a number of times due to which people had to pass sleepless nights, she alleged further adding that the entire department has become corrupt and forced common people to come on roads for raising their problems. PDD has been serving inflated power bills but failed to provide regular power supply. “People, who were paying bill of Rs 400 were given bills of Rs 2400 without justifying reason as no readings were taken by the Meter Readers,” she said further demanding thorough probe of the functioning of the department. | |
