Jammu, Jan 13: Jammu and Kashmir People Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday organized a program for celebration of Lohri Festival in the front of PDP office Kacchi Chawani in which local residents, shopkeepers and leaders of PDP participated. According to press release, the folk festival of Jammu was celebrated today by lighting a bonfire and offering Mungfali and sweets as a thank giving to the Almighty God on conclusion of harvesting of crops and onset of spring season. A large number of party leaders and activists participated in this celebration which was presided by Vikram Singh, Girish Sharma, Chaman Angral, Pawan Mehra, Neeraj Chandel, Vinod Mahajan, Bittu Pardan, Surinder Singh, Veeresh Mahajan, Sanjeev Dogra, Dimple Tak, Hardeep Singh, termed this festival a secular festival cutting across religious divide and epitomizes secular and mixed culture of the entire Jammu region. The Lohri is celebrated by one and all jointly and is concluded in the evening by making a communal bonafire in every mohalla and street. He added that we must be guided in our social dealings by the spirit and ethos of this folk festival. He congratulated all the workers present on the occasion and also expressed greetings for the entire society through the medium of the media Speaking on the occasion, district vice president Vikram Singh expressed satisfaction and said that we had maintained our age old cultural heritage and spirit of tolerance with one and all by celebrating this festival of Lohri jointly with people of all faiths. |
