Pakistan is adept in weaving fables | | | The establishment in Islamabad seems to be adept in manufacturing tales. It is adept in weaving imaginary stories. It is equally adept in either nursing fears or in voicing apprehensions about threats from neighbouring countries. And Pakistan is more adept in blaming India for all the ills that the Government agencies in Islamabad are faced with. The latest gaffe is from Sartaj Aziz Adviser to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.Being an adviser to the Prime Minister on foreign affairs and national security he is expected to be in know of the real ground situation. He is supposed to be aware of the ground realities and it seems that the latest gaffe from him has been deliberate attempt at berating the Government of India led by Narendra Modi. His latest statement indicates that instead of accepting its mistakes Islamabad prefers to hold India guilty for continued conflict with Pakistan.India is using Afghan soil to carry out attacks on Pakistan, Sartaj Aziz, Adviser to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs, has claimed the other day. He said, "India's stance has been non-cooperative since the formation of the Modi-government. "He added that the Indian involvement" had reduced after Pakistan and Afghanistan stepped up cooperation and agreed not to let their territory be used to launch attacks on each other. "The stance of the previous governments in India was subtle, but the Modi-led government said that if Pakistan is to maintain good ties with India, then it should compromise on Kashmir," he said.He added that India wanted resumption of dialogue on its own terms "which were not acceptable to Pakistan. "Well India has imposed only condition that Pakistan should not use its soil for exporting terror and those involved in the Mumbai attack of 2008 be tried and awarded punishment instead of allowing them to roam freely. Islamabad has been making repeated plea to India for the resumption of talks but on the other hand it continues to provide assistance to militants to make infiltration bids for crossing into Jammu and Kashmir. If New Delhi called off the proposed Foreign secretary level talks in August last it was done in reaction to lsamabad's continued nexus with Kashmiri separatists and in retaliation to the repeated ceasefire violations being committed by the Pakistani forces on the IB and the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir.Pakistan has not shut the arms training camps for militants and those completing training in these camps were being pushed into Jammu and Kashmir for raising the level of violence. How can New Delhi reopen the channels of dialogue under these circumstances ? Now Sartaj Aziz claims that India was using the soil of Afghanistan for launching an attack on Pakistan.Even if India has a plan to attack Pakistan why should its Army, alongwith its war machinery travel to a distance of over 1,000 kms,and target towns and villages in Pakistan ? Why cannot India launch the attack on Pakistan from various sectors in Rajasthan,Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir ?History is proof to military adventurism on the part of Pakistan. If there have been four wars, including that of Kargil, between India and Pakistan since 1947 Pakistan has been found to have fired the first shot. India has neither displayed its military adventurism nor any extra territorial ambition. Hence Saraj Aziz's fears seem to have no basis. He possibly seems to be day dreaming. Actually the problem with Islamabad is that it wants all its neighbouring countries to promote conflict with India which is seen by Islamabad as Pakistan's main enemy. If Pakistan has any enemy it is within the country. In fact the fundamentalists, extremists and terrorists pose a severe threat to the very survival of Pakistan. Hence there is no point or purpose or justification for Sartaj Azizi's fulmination against India. India has tried to promote cordial ties with Afghanistan and New Delhi is keen to provide financial and technical assistance to the war ravaged Afghanistan but Islamabad does not want people in Afghanistan to enjoy the benefit of India's economic aid and hence Pakistan has been floating rumours and weaving fables. |
