| Programme on Managing Parenting Stress held at JU | | |  Early Times Report
Jammu, May 6: Department of Home Science, University of Jammu today organized a Parent Empowerment Programme on the twin theme 'Managing Parenting Stress; and Identifying Child Abuse'.
According to press release, the department runs a nursery school and day care center under its premises and as parental outreach activity organized today's programme. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest of the programme Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Dean Faculty of Science, and Head of the Department emphasized on the need of addressing the issue of parenting stress. Modern day life style has induced stress among parents which leads to disruption in the family system. She emphasized on the importance of meditation and other relaxation techniques for countering stress among parents and caregivers.
Dr.Chand Trehan ( Renowed counsellor and Capacity Building officer, University of Jammu) and Dr. Piyali Arora (Assistant Prof and Head, Deptt. of Psychology, Govt. College of Education) were the resource persons on the occasion. Dr. Arora elaborated on diverse forms of child abuse and listed strategies for parents and teachers to identify abuse among children. She stressed on the need of early identification of children who are abused. She discussed about the various forms of abuse and neglect children can face and further, discussed ways to avoid these. |
