| BJP may face vote bank erosion if it fails to get AIIMS for Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 6: The state unit of the BJP may lose the opportunity for securing one AIIMS for Jammu if there is further delay in mounting pressure on the centre for sanctioning the campus for Jammu.
Already leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has written a detailed letter to prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in which he has made a strong plea for setting up one AIIMS in Jammu without snatching the one sanctioned for Kashmir. Now the Panthers Party has decided to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi in protest against sanctioning one AIIMs for Jammu.
These events could motivate the Government of India to sanction one AIIMS for Jammu when already the Congress and the NC too have favoured a separate AIIMS for Jammu.
Since the BJP has been sharing power with the PDP it is the duty of the BJP unit in Jammu to persuade the Government of India especially Prime Minister for sanctioning one AIIMS for Jammu when the union Minister of state in the PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, had announced the other day that the AIIMS sanctioned for Kashmir was actually meantfor Jammu. In addition to this the Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh, had,during his recent meetings with the Prime Minister and Union Finance Minister,made a st rong plea for establishing one AIIMS forJammu. Once the Government of India sanctions one AIIMS for Jammu on the pattern the previous Congress led UPA Government sanctioned separate Central University for Jammu, after the state unit of the Congress mounted pressure on Sonia Gan dhi and Manmohan Singh to maintain regional balance by sanctioning a central university for Jammu when one such university had been sanctioned for Kashmir, the credit for this would be taken by the Congress and the Panthers Party.
It is in this context that there is utmost need and urgency for the state unit BJP to air dash to New Delhi and persuade the central Government to announce the Government of India's decision to establish one AIIMS in Jammu. Once this was done it could prevent the BJP unit in Jammu from suffering serious vote bank erosion.
The BJP's compromise on various issues after it forged an alliance with the PDP for sharing power has already enraged voters in Jammu region and it was time for the BJP unit to initiate measures for stalling vote bank erosion. |
