NC' core panel wants Farooq to take over reins of party | Firm message: Dr Abdullah, not Omar can refurbish dispirited morale of NC | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 6: Even as working president of National Conference Omar Abdullah attended two day Core group meeting in Srinagar, the crucial yet hard message that emanated as the crux of discussions was that it was high time Dr Farooq Abdullah started looking into affairs of the party in both the regions. Farooq, sources said is arriving in Jammu on two day visit from May 12 which has been necessitated to revitalize and revive party activities otherwise in shambles. Sources said though a host of issues were discussed during the two day meeting by the senior leaders who are in the core group, ample indications emerged during the course of suggestions that Farooq's interest and intervention the political matters was must to keep up the image and survival of the party while in role of opposition. Sources further said it was confided by most of the leaders that it was on account of follies and political blunders the party made during the last few days which cost it dearly and pave way for PDP to have edge both during LS polls and Assembly elections. Party has borne the brunt of Farooq's absence and lack of his guidance at crucial junctures has cost it heavily, sources said leaders having put forth this view in the meeting which was chaired by Dr Abdullah. Pertinently, the core committee meeting of NC was held after a long gap and it was perhaps an even more longer period after which Farooq attended any meeting of the party. Sources further said that in private conversations senior guard of the party has conveyed it to stalwart that Omar as president has not been able to keep the flock together particularly at the ground level which has sent the cadres in a state of disarray and directionless. Even though Omar is young, dynamic and sharp, but Farooq's rich political experience has much more weight than these attributes that is required for the party in opposition role. Farooq's guidance is also felt in taking on party's rival PDP which has far more edge across the state on account of its tough and firm leadership, sources added. Besides other things, it was decided that Farooq Abdullah, who stayed away for over a year for his ill health , would now sit in both the regions at regular intervals and re fill the vacuum created due to his absence. |
