IIIM celebrates CSIR foundation day | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 26: The 73rd Foundation Day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), was celebrated here at the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM) Jammu and celebrations were largely attended by eminent scientists, invited dignitaries, guests, members of media and members of CSIR-IIIM. Prof. Sudhir K Jain, Vice-Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K, was chief guest of this function. On this occasion, the students from different colleges and schools in the Jammu city were taken on a guided visit to the various departments of the institute. To inculcate the interest of research, the Scientists and Technical staff have demonstrated their research and developmental activities to the visitor students. Earlier, in the morning a simple and impressive function was organized to celebrate the CSIR foundation day. Dr. Ram Vishwakarma, Director, IIIM Jammu welcomed Prof. Jain, the chief guest, described him as leading economist of India and prominent figure in IPR matters. Dr: Ram further said that Prof. Jain has been a member of several national-level committees set up by different ministries of the Govt. of India on issues related to entrepreneurship and IPR education policy. Prof. Sudhir K Jain eulogized the role of CSIR in Indian Science and Society said that much of the science policy of this country in research and education can be traced back to early initiatives taken by Jawaharlal Nehru but there is still huge scope to strategize further. On this occasion, the chief guest also distributed prizes for best research papers, best patents, winner of Science quiz and overall excellence. In the best Research Paper category, the 1st Prize was shared by Niha Dhar, Satinder Raina, Sumeer Razdan, Wajid Waheed Bhat, Aashiq Hussain, Samantha Vaishnavi, for the publication, "Cloning and functional characterisation of three branch point Oxidosqualene cyclases from Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal appeared in Journal of Biological Chemistry AND Shreyans K. Jain, Santosh K. Guru, Prashant Joshi, Samdarshi, Meena, Janhavi R. Nadkarni, Amarinder Singh, Sonali S. Bharate, for the publication, Pyrano-isochromanones as IL-6: Synthesis, in vitro and in-vivo anti arthritic activityopublished in Journal of Medicinal Chemistry 2014: 57; 7085-7097. 2nd best research paper award shared by Bilal Rah,Reyaz Ur Rasool, Debasis Nayak, Syed Khalid Yousuf, Lekha Dinesh Kumar and Shakeel Rehman, Bilal Rah, Shabir lone,Reyaz Rasool, Saleem Farooq,Debasis Nayak, Souneek, Naveed Anjum Chikan, Akanksha Behl and Zahoor Wani. 3rd best research paper award went to Rukmankesh Mehra and Rashmi Sharma and Best Patent Award went to Two patents which have been taken up for pre-clinical development. The First patent was, "Novel 1,3, 5- Tiazine Based P13K Inhibitors as anticancer agents and a process for the preparation thereof" with inventors Thanusha Thatikonda, Suresh Kumar, Umed Singh, Priya Mahajan, Girish Mahajan and the second was "6-Nitro-2,3- Dihyroimidazo[2,1-b] oxazoles and a process for the preparation thereof anti-mycobacterial agents" with Gurunadham Munagala, Kushalava Reddy Yempalla and Vikarant Singh as inventors. |
