Early Times Report

BARAMULLA (Uri), Feb 24: The armies of India and Pakistan exchanged fresh artillery shelling and firing in Hajipeer and Churanda areas of Uri sector in this north Kashmir district Saturday.
Sources told Early Times that, there was a fresh firing and mortar shelling that started on Saturday morning in Hajipeer and Churanda area of Uri Sector.
Today afternoon many families of Salikote and its adjacent areas of Uri sector were shifted to the safer places as there was continuous firing from across the border, said sources.
Earlier on Friday at least 25- 35 families were shifted to safer places after three residential houses were partially damaged in Tilwari village of Uri.
Sources said that, "the intensity of firing was very high, as it was believed that the Pakistani army has started war from this side.
Two houses in Sikote village were damaged by mortar shelling; people have been already evicted from the zero line villages by the administration while as police and army have moved other nearby resident of the other villages close to the Line of Control (LoC) to the safer areas, sources informed. Locals have raised a serious concern about their safety, according to sources that, people of Silikote, Tilawari, Churunda were being moved to safer places, but local residents of other areas have not been evicted yet, till the last reports came in, as they are also living close to LoC. Let the Govt of India (GOI) come clean over their policies and plans, they have left us here to die, as many times we had informed the state government to construct bunkers for the inhabitants of frontier district, especially for the people of Uri that are living close to the LoC, said Nazir Ahmad of Silikote. According to him that, Union Minister, Rajnath Singh had approved 14 thousand bunkers for the residents of Jammu Divison, where as fact of the matter is that we have been left on the mercy of God.
Let the govt come clear that Uri is not a part of J&K than there is no issue; we will take the bullets from both the sides, said Khan.
Meanwhile JK Pradesh Congress (JKPCC) Vice President and MLC G N Monga have expressed serious concern over the plight of Uri, who are immensely suffering due to the relentless cross border shelling.
In a statement he said that, both the Central and the State governments have failed to respond to the extraordinary situation on the borders in the state. "The governments have failed to protect the lives and the property of the border people as there is an extraordinary situation on the borders. While lashing out at both the governments for their failure to take measures to end ceasefire violations, Monga said, they are helplessly watching the deaths and devastation of the people and their properties, said a statement. It further said that, "people of Jammu and Kashmir are paying heavy price for the failed policy of BJP government towards Pakistan and Kashmir. The shelling and firing on borders has become a routine affair but the Modi led BJP government has no roadmap or policy to deal with the situation".
