Jammu, Mar 9: Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar invited O P Sharma Vidyarthi to interact with students and throw light on rare, endangered, threatened edible, medicinal, decorative flora of Jammu dwelling on family characteristics of prominent families. Highlighting changes in tree penology and pollinators emergence before time due to erratic behavior of weather patterns as a consequence of climate change, Sharma highlighted need to conserve and preserve wild crop relatives in the wilderness and Botanical repositories so that future crop improvements in relation to climate change can be well strategized. He made students aware about wild crop relatives of Black gram, Banana, Gourd, Lettuce, Mango, Luffa, Purslane, Pulses, Beans, Apple, Cherry, Figs, Mulberries, and Tejpat among others. Plants growing in campus were inventoried for their edibility, therapeutic qualities, decorative, cosmetic and religious purposes. On the occasion Dr Raja Ashiq Malik appreciated the role of Tree Talk campaign in spreading Biodiversity awareness among different stakeholders especially scholars and students of Botany. |
