PDP rejects NC leadership's accusations | | | The opposition National Conference has blamed the ruling PDP for continued neglect of the lakes and road connectivity programme in Kashmir. While Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, is shown in the press releases as if she is engaged in touring Srinagar city, especially the downtown areas, when in reality she has presided over total neglect of the city and the vale of Kashmir. This has made living miserable because of the politics of polarization and fragmentation. The opposition party has accused the PDP led coalition rule of giving a raw deal to the Kashmir valley when compared to the region of Jammu. In fact those in Jammu have been blaming the coalition for giving a raw deal to the region of Jammu in terms of development projects, in terms of promotion in Health and Education sectors and in the programme of resolving unemployment problem. The result has been that during the coalition rule the region of Jammu has been neglected with growing number of educated unemployed. In terms of providing Government jobs educated youth from Kashmir get a lion's share whereas those in the Jammu region have been sidelined. "The glaring example of raw deal is the figure of plan development that was proposed at Rs 212 crores for Jammu & 102 crores for Srinagar for 2017-18. Is this not clear and evident indication of PDP Government's discrimination against Srinagar is the roar of the NC leadership. And the NC leadership has one major complaint against the PDP which has been claiming initiation of projects which had been cleared during the previous NC-Congress rule led by Omar Abdullah. All the projects which were initiated under Omar Abdullah led government are inaugurated again by the CM and her ministers and sometimes shamelessly twice. The flyover from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh is Omar's contribution to the city but the PDP may claim credit for that too. Reminding people of how discriminatory the PDP has been all along the NC leadership has stated. While accusing PDP of neglecting development of lakes the NC leadership as asked the PDP why hasn't anything been done for Anchar Sar, Gil Sar and Khush-Hal Sar Lakes, The PDP has deliberately neglected these lakes. One should visit the peripheries of these lakes and see the plight of the people living around. It doesn't look like it's a part of the city. Senior PDP leaders have countered the NC argument of neglecting lakes The PDP leaders have asked one question. What happened to the Dal development project which was funded and financed by the previous central Governments. In fact the conservation and development of the Dal lake had started right from 1977 and till 2014 several hundred crores of funds for the Dal development project were released by the central Governments during the last 35 years. However, the misuse of these funds by the successive NC and Congress Governments has allowed the Dal Lake to be a highly polluted water body and has witnessed rapid encroachment. The PDP leaders want the BJP led NDA Government to set up a committee of experts which may hold a probe into the misuse of central Government funds. During the previous NC led coalition Government a scheme was initiated to carry out conservation and development of Nigin and Wullar lakes but nothing was done. The PDP leaders wish peace to return to Kashmir which would allow the coalition Government to initiate new projects. And the coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir is waiting for the BJP led NDA Government to release Rs. one lakh crore which Modi had promised as a package for the state. And these leaders claim that despite derailment of peace the PDP led coalition Government has been able to change the face of the state within three years which the NC had failed to achieve it during 27 to 30 years. |
