Bijbehara businessmen leave students in lurch | After eight months, ET report gets vindicated | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report
Anantnag, Mar 9: A group of influential businessmen, who run a school in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir's Anantnag district, have put the career of over 450 students at stake as they have has expressed its inefficiency to conduct exams through Central Board of School Education. Businessmen, enjoying the patronage of politicians, had earlier claimed that the school was run and managed by leading international education company-GEMS Education. The development however has vindicated Early Times Report 'Influential businessmen run unregistered school in Bijbehara, dupe parents' published eight months ago. According to parents, the local school management comprising three businessmen and some others cited a court order last week and expressed their inefficiency to conduct examination through Central Board of School Education. "The local management actually businessmen have gone to court against the GEMS Education and managed to get an order against the education company," they said. They education company-GEMS- on the other hand states that the court order has restrained them from operating the school. However the tussle between local management and GEMS left over 450 students and their parents in lurch. Parents, who are exploring the legal options and want strict against the buisnesmen told Early Times that they were simply duped. "Before Chief Education Officer Anantnag they admitted that the school is registered with state board of School Education while as we were initially told that it is registered with CBSE," pleading anonymity, they said. "Now the CEO Anantnag assured that they will held the examination of our wards through state board as they have the provision. Once it is held after that we will approach the law of the land," he added. Chief Education Officer Anantnag wasn't available for a comment as he didn't attend repeated phone calls. Important to recall, Trio (Businessmen) under the brand name of Everonn set up a school at Bijbehara and later renamed the school as GEMS so 'GEMS' being a multinational organization with schools in almost 14 countries attracted parents of every hue from the South. Besides, the branding and advertising strategy of GEMS promising skies was a strong pull. Parents say that school owners and administration promised an IB diploma or a 10/12 through CBSE and the pedagogy was based on 'no book no homework 'catchphrase besides promised interschool exchange of students in GEMS owned schools but later that never happened. School was charging Rs 54000 to 84000 fee from a nursery kid but now it has put the career of hundreds of students at risk. |
