JU bends, concedes demands, students call off strike | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 4: Realising quantum of students' anger and mass support to ongoing agitation in University Campus against suspension of five students and lack of infrastructure, University of Jammu on Wednesday agreed to the demands of the students. Meanwhile, the agitation has been called off by the students' after meeting between the representatives of students and the University administration. "The ongoing strike by some students in the University of Jammu has been called off after the Negotiating Team constituted by the University today had discussions with the representatives of the striking students representing various student groups", sources said. "The University also revoked the suspension of five students who had been suspended after the incident in the office of DSW on March 23, 2018", sources said and added that the members of the Committee and the Students' Representatives also agreed that the demand raised by the students with respect to University infrastructure and facilities were legitimate and the same should be provided in the shortest possible time. Sources said that the acting VC, and Dean Research Studies, Prof Jigar Mohd, constituted a committee comprising, president, JUTA and President Non-Teaching Staff. "The meeting yielded fruitful outcome and finally, the students agreed to call off their strike", sources said and added that the adamant Vice Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma gave job to some else to satisfy his ego. "It was the inefficiency on the part of VC, that students suffer academic loss due prevailing situation in the campus", they added. |
