Gurdas Kumar Early Times Report Vijaypur, Apr 5: High mast lights installed along the national highway at Vijaypur town have been lying defunct for close to three years now, jeopardizing the safety and security of the locals as well as commuters, but the authorities concerned have been indifferent to the situation. Sources told Early Times that the National Highway Authority had installed lights along the national highway at Vijaypur town for beautification and security, but district administration Samba has not cared to ensure that these lights were in working order. Astonishingly, when local people approached the district administration Samba to raise the issue, they were given assurance that the lights will be repaired soon but nothing was done. Moreover the Power Development Department was also asked to fix the defunct lights, but the department advocated that National Highway Authority was the responsible for its functioning and maintenance. In absence of the street lights, road accidents have increased due to pitch darkness on the road leading to loss of precious lives. |
